These things are the primary features of the client, completion of this list makes the client "feature complete" and ready for release. Please note that I'm working backwards here, because it's easier given the complexity of the client. I may need to revisit the client in spurts to make adjustments between how and what data the server sends the client if I run into any trouble with the implementation.

Blue = complete.

Technically May isn't summer, yet, but there you have it.

Last final is this week. I have some personal things to take care of this weekend that will carry over into late May but I look forward to resuming work on Cyra then. Currently I have no plans for a summer or fall semester; I've been doing the full-time work and school thing for several years now and I need a break. The plan is to carry the momentum that often builds when we get a second (third, fourth, fifth, ...) wind all the way through the end of the year.

Rashka has done an amazing job with ...... Read More

From snowy, "disaster area" Wisconsin I bid you a warm December.

Just to follow up on my last post, I plan to pick up on the client a bit this month. I already had the login and character select screens working before work stopped in October, I plan to finish those out and get the gamescreen up and running next. I will probably release a video of the new client when that's done, so we can see it a bit more clearly.

My spring semester starts in January, after Martin Luther King day. Fortunately, I only signed up for two classes, and neither of them upper ...... Read More

Congratulations, it's November!

I just wanted to drop an update before the date on the last date on this particular forum started to look a little old. Apparently my timing is just right, as the latest "No Updates?" thread is already a few days old.

Currently I'm looking at a heavily condensed time period of December and January in which to get some more serious work done on things around here, my time came to a close in mid-October when academics took the front seat. Right now everything is approaching the downhill state in terms of academic work so ...... Read More

So this is kind of an exciting time for me, and one of the most frustrating and tiring at the same time.

Various Cyra related projects are coming to a head now, and things have been a little slow overall because each one relied on parts of the other being complete. To put things in perspective, I've been building not one or two but five different programs at once:

1] The game engine.
2] The game client.
3] The re-built land mapper for cyra's designers.
4] The simulator for prototyping advanced engine functionality.
5] The web services for ...... Read More

I had hoped to wait until the end of the month for an update.

Rashka's updates are the most visible, and I had hoped those would be enough but it seems that even an update to tell you there is no update is enough for some.

We still do not have a name for the new classes, though we haven't really stopped to give that much thought. The healer progression is mostly settled, currently we've broken off to work on the spell system some. Right now we've mapped out the debuffs, buffs, shielding and healing types of spells we're likely to see in the ...... Read More

Howdy guys,

Work is continuing on the class stuff. Livor has done quite a bit to start laying out our progression style, which is to say what and how you train - along with how often.

We're definitely including the new Ranger-ish classes, and we'll have one new race for the Mictali which is as yet unnamed. I'd give you the codename, but then I'd have to kill you. I'll go through with the 'lore comb' again at some point and update the original realm threads with some of the new names, concepts, and the new classes when I get the chance. ...... Read More

We've been working on more of the class information the last couple of weeks.

Right now we're in the process of working out how the craft system is going to work, and what kinds of things will have to be done to construct things and the like. This will start leading into the other classes and how their progression will work, what kinds of skills, etc.

I don't have a lot more concrete information to share with you at the moment, but I will say that we're very keenly looking at the difference between skills and abilities. We're trying to be very ...... Read More

I can no longer afford having two separate servers and since we won't have another public alpha for a while I have chosen not to renew my Monthly account on the windows server.

This means I have to move Cyra.ws out of here. I have been notified that the account will be closed on the 15th, so sometime between then and now you may notice a tiny bit of downtime. Other than that, it should not affect us too greatly.

Another round of posts has been made over the last couple of days detailing the races and classes we're currently in the process of fleshing out.

Currently each realm has five races and six classes. We feel, at this point, that six classes is a good number - it allows us to give each class something interesting fun to do. While there is some repetition in what the classes of each realm can do, particularly seen in the melee DPS classes like 'rogues', we still feel that we can make the flavor of each class different. In particular, we're rather proud that we ...... Read More
